We believe in God the Father
We believe in Christ the Son
We believe in the Holy Spirit
We are the Church and we stand as one

We believe in the Holy Bible
We believe in the virgin birth
We believe in the resurrection
That Christ one day will return to earth

To Jesus we sing
Because we believe

Tomorrow, we will be celebrating because we believe 2,000 years ago, the impossible took place. People can try to explain away some of Jesus’ other miracles, but there is no way to explain how a dead man could come back to life without a miraculous act of divine intervention.

Friday evening, we learned that there was no other way for God to save sinful man other than the fullness of His wrath punishing His sinless Son. Jesus himself asked His Father if there was any alternative, but His path was unchanged. All of us were conceived in sin (Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23) and worthy of eternal death (Romans 6:23). God is unchangeable and so it is impossible for Him to ignore His standard of holiness (Matthew 5:48). Therefore, God needed to use a means outside of the law to fulfill His redeeming plan and remove sin once and for all. It could only be done through the power of the cross.

This, the pow’r of the cross:
Christ became sin for us;
Took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross

But His plan was not finished there. His work would not have been complete if He had not been able to defeat death. But He did. Jesus rose from the grave. Now, Jesus’s resurrection means that all who believe will be justified. Romans 4:25 says “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” Now we believe. Now we are free. Free to sing joyfully to the Lord without hesitation or reservation. Free to shout to the Lord, for…

Shout to the Lord all the earth let us sing
Power and majesty praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your Name
I’ll sing for joy at the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You
Forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You
