The Many Aspects of God’s Great Character
As we come together for worship this Sunday, let us come with gratitude and praise to our Lord Jesus who is the exact representation of God’s nature. He possesses all the attributes of God. He is Sovereign, Eternal, Unchanging, All knowing, Perfect, Holy, and Truth. He possessed Titles of Deity: Immanuel, Lord, I AM. Jesus has rescued us from the wrath that is to come by living a sinless life and by paying our sin debt in His death on the cross.
The song Across The Lands tells the story of Jesus Christ in three short verses. It speaks of His eternality, His role in creation, His role in salvation, His resurrection and ascension back to Heaven. The chorus reads:
You’re the Author of creation,
You’re the Lord of every man,
and Your cry of love rings out across the lands
What aspect of God’s great character strikes you this morning as you reflect on these truths?
A Refusal to Bow with Total Allegiance
In Philippians chapter 2:10 we read: so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, OF those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The Apostle Paul quotes from Isaiah 45, where God speaking:
“Is it not I the LORD? And there is no other God besides Me, A righteous God and a savior; There is none except me. Turn to Me and be saved all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by Myself, the word has gone forth from my mouth in righteousness and will not turn back, That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance. They will say of Me, only in the LORD are righteousness and strength.”
And yet, have we bowed our hearts today? As we take a quick survey of our previous week, would we find a continual, joyful submission to Christ as King? Allegiance to Christ is not a part-time job. It is not a shared allegiance. And yet, our hearts have found many alternatives to replace Christ as the true Lord of the universe.
Who or what, has received your bowed knee this week? Let us confess our wayward hearts before God who knows the depths of our thoughts.
Standing Amazed in Wonder
And it light of this, we can, in light of our repentance, sing with confidence:
I stand amazed in the presence, of Jesus the Nazarene
And wonder how He could love me
A sinner, condemned unclean
Amazed. In Wonder. How marvelous, how wonderful. Let our song forever be one of joyful praise for what Christ has done for us.
Forgiven to Bow, Sanctified to Bow
We have been given the great gift of salvation. God has given us the gift of faith to believe the Gospel. He is working to form in us greater and greater desires to worship and centralize our lives around Him and His glory. So, let us bow down and humble ourselves before God together in worship as we sing. May He align our undistracted, waywardless, allegiance to Him.
We bow down, we lay our crowns at the feet of Jesus
The greatness of His mercy and love at the feet of Jesus
We cry Holy! Holy! Holy!
We cry Holy! Holy! Holy!
We cry Holy! Holy! Holy!
